# Cluster of Workstations

Cluster of Workstations (CoWs) used to be very common in physics departments in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Back then, UNIX workstations were very expensive, and PCs running Linux were not stable - and fast - enough for long-running computations and simulations.

Using NFS, NIS, and the r-commands (rsh, etc) it is easy to build.
